Sanur Kite Festival

We spent the day at the Sanur Kite Festival which takes on the beach in Sanur. The festival attracts large crowds who come to see kites flown by teams from across Bali who compete for bragging rights and cash prizes.
Charlotte bought a small kite and had a lot of fun running along the surf as she tried to keep it aloft.

Update: An eight-year old boy died the day that we attended when one of the large fish-shaped kites (shown in the top photo) crashed to ground.

  1. The pictures of food look so tempting. Do you still avoid street food for fear of Bali belly, or are you now a culinary native?

    1. We have eaten at beach warungs (typically eating grilled fish, noodles, fries and fruit), but have not sampled any street food. Our friends tell us the food that is grilled on the street (such as chicken satay) is generally pretty safe to eat. I worry about the corn being washed in undrinkable water. Also, there are stories of cooking oil being reused by street vendors, rendering it carcinogenic. So I have steered clear.
