A ridge walk along the Campuhan

The Campuhan River (pronounced Cham-poo-an) is the major river in Ubud.  On Saturday we followed a trail that started at the bridge over the Campuhan in Ubud and led northward along a high ridge and past rice fields to a small village just north of Ubud.  It was our first chance to go for a nature stroll.

Yellow and white are holy colors.  A shrine in a home bordering the steps down to the Campuhan.
Certain trees have spirits residing in them.  The spirit could be a good spirit or an evil spirit.  The black and white checked fabric addresses this unknown - including both white for if it is a good spirit, and black for if it is an evil spirit.

Elephant grass growing along the ridge

Ducks enjoying a flooded rice paddie
New rice shoots ready for planting
Rice paddies with Mt. Agung in the background
Modern farm equipment, taking the place of oxen
Terraced rice paddies
A view of the ridge we walked along, taken from the opposite side of the river from the restaurant where we had lunch.
